Tommie Copper Compression Gear Review & Giveaway

Hi to the new readers who are finding this review after seeing Tommie Copper products on the Montel Williams Show or Dr. Oz.  I hope you enjoy my review! Please note that I don’t work for Tommie Copper so unfortunately I can’t send you any items you may want to try. I’m also not a doctor and I can’t evaluate how much a Tommie Copper product would help with your specific needs. If you would like to see Tommie Copper’s full product line up, please CLICK HERE TO VISIT THEIR SITE. If you have any questions about my experience with the products I tested, please feel free to contact me via email by clicking the Contact Me button above. Thanks so much!

A few weeks ago, I was sent some products to review by Tommie Copper*.  If you’re not familiar with this company…well you should be. They make compression gear infused with copper (it stimulates the immune system to fight infections, to repair injured tissues, and to promote healing – source)  – everything from calf sleeves, to ankle sleeves, to shirts and gloves.

I received a set of calf and ankle sleeves.

I’ve been wearing them a lot since I’ve received them.  I’ve worn them together – they work almost as a compression sock – and separately.  I wanted to get a lot of use out of them before I put together this review.

Pros:

  • They compressed without cutting off circulation in my feet. Sometimes, I’ve found other compression products squeeze my calves so tight that my feet tingle. While the “compressing” feeling I get from Tommie Copper seems less like my legs are being strangled, I do notice the lack of compression as soon as I take them off.  It works without being overwhelming.
  • They wick and dry very quickly, very helpful in the springlike winter weather DC has been experiencing.
  • The Tommie Copper band at the top really stays put. I never had to adjust either sleeve.
  • The ankle sleeve really did help my Achilles feel less tender after runs.

Hanging out in my ankle sleeves post run // heading out for a run in my calf sleeves.

Cons:

  • The calf sleeve sits a little higher on your leg than what I was used to.
  • Um, there really aren’t any cons.

So long story short, I love my Tommie Copper products.  They’ve helped relieve some of the soreness in my ankle and their customer service is amazing.  There’s nothing  nicer than reaching out to a company with questions about their products and receiving a genuinely interested response.

Giveaway:

The nice people at Tommie Copper have agreed to give one CarlyBananas reader a pair of compression sleeves – ankle, calf, knee or elbow.  Entering is simple:

  • Comment on this post with which pair of sleeves you would like to try.

That’s it – no hoops to jump through.  If you’d like extra entries, follow Tommie Copper on Twitter – they have a great presence and interact with their followers – and leave a comment that you did.

I’ll select a winner via random.org on Tuesday, February 14th at 5pm (Eastern).

*Full disclosure: I contacted Tommie Copper. I was having Achilles pain and was desperate to try another brand of compression gear. They were extremely helpful and sent me some gear to help relieve my soreness.

Comments are closed. A winner will be announced tomorrow morning. Thanks to all who entered!

While I personally think I would look best if I were wearing all four sets (does this knee sleeve next to my calf sleeve make me look cute?) I think I like the ankle sleeve the most, because my Achilles tendon can get a little sore now and then, too!

I’d love to give the ankle sleeve a shot – I fell down some basement stairs (totally SOBER) about 13 years ago and sprained my ankle really badly. It’s never been the same…And I should probably type that story up for my blog one day. It’s actually kind of funny.

    Hey Carly,

Great writeup and giveaway opportunity! As a newer Triathlete, I started to notice a trend of using compression technology. Heck even Lance Armstrong was doing it. I really didn’t really understand the need of it, but since I have taken up running, I’ve realized my Achilles Tendon has been a little sore in my higher mileage runs. Besides KT tape, this sounds like a great option – ankle compression!

Copper woven into fabric placed on top of the skin does nothing for the immune system. It’s biologically impossible…

There’s plenty of actual scientific evidence that the compression aspect of their products works. And their fabrics are thin and soft, yet sturdy. I don’t understand why they continue to advertise with unsubstantiated and biologically unsound claims.

I am a 60 year old woman who is trying to regain her health. I was unfortunately injured in a fall while working at my job as a dental hygienist. That was in November of 2010, and I have dealt with a concussion injury as well as a torn ACL/meniscus of my left knee. I am dealing with Workers Compensation, trying to get them to repair my knee. I have been unable to even walk without pain, and have to have a knee replacement. Not telling you this for sympathy, but to say that I will never give up doing what I can to maintain my strength and health. I am walking every day, but am always in pain, and can’t take much in the way of drugs to help with that. I am hoping that the Tommie Copper knee compression sleeve will aid me in being able to walk daily with less pain!

I’ve never tried compression sleeves to help with my sore calves because I always figured they’d be really tight, and make my legs feel worse instead of better. But this review made me think that these might be just the right amount of compression-without cutting off circulation, like you said-to help with my soreness and strain. I might have to pick myself up a pair!

I love this idea i just found out about it today. I am a manager/hairstylist and massage theerapist. When i was younger i sprianed my ankle i don’t know how many times and standing all day is beating them up. I would love to try these out and see if it helps. I have the ability to share this with so many people.

I’m training for my first half-marathon and I definitely think the ankle sleeves would help a lot. Thanks for the great review!

I am requesting a pair of Tommie Copper Compression for the knee. I am a very active 47 year old woman with arthiritis in my knees. I don’t let it stop me nor slow me down. When I exercise I have to do it in moderation but I KNOW I can do more with Tommie Copper Compression for the knee. Thank you

My wife has tried just about everything to provide support for her knees. I just heard about your product from Montel Williams on TV. Is your product really that good. What a blessing it would be for her. She is somewhat restricted bexcause of her knees but is but wants to get back to activity. Your help would be like a new lease on life should it work as you say. Many thanks

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 2 years ago at age 37. I am now on chemotherapy and Humira to slow its progression. The pain meds I take daily barely take the edge off and really tear up the stomach. Dr. Oz showed the TC compressoin gloves on his show this week and I would like to give these a try along with a pair of the knee sleeves. Unfortunately, I am unable to afford these myself since I have been taken off work by my doctor and I am still waiting on my disability determination. I would love to give these a try. Thanks for sharing your personal experience.

I’d like to have the Knee sleeves as I have Arthritis in both Knees and Hips! I have resorted to put Bracelets on my ankles to try help, and I believe they have help some. I also wear copper braclets for helping my elbows. Been wearing these for years.

I would love to have a pair of the ankle compressors. My left achilles is tender. My right has already ruptured, had surgery, & is now sustained with a permanant partial re-rupture. The pain is truly excruciating at times. Thank you for the review info & the giveaway opporitunity.

I have had chronic problems with my right ankle for years after surgery I had in my twenties. I have tried everything imaginable, from chiropractic and massage to energy therapies and nothing works. Seeing you have no cons regarding the product, I fully intend to try the ankle compression as soon as size small is available again!

Goodday Carly! I’m ordering 2 knee products for my husband and shipping them to Australia. He is currently working there and in his leisure, also playing on 3 different basketball leagues. This is killing his knees, so I told him about the Tommie prods and hope they work. Would love to win a pair for me. :D Cheers!

Hi Carly, thanks for your review of the Tommie Copper products. Consider this my request for entry in the drawing for a free pair.

I have been struggling with tendinitis in both my elbows for about 8 months. I haven’t been able to use my arms much and sometimes not at all due to the extreme pain and weakness (ex. all of Oct & Jan).

I hope to get the Tommie Copper elbow sleeves somehow, since I need to get better & get back to work. Things are really tight financially since I have been unemployed for over 3 years due to economy & other health problems.

Again, thanks for your review and I hope you draw my name. Blessings, Panos

I’ve never worn a compression calf sleeve before. I wear compressions pants when I play sports but I’m intrigued by the ankle sleeve because I wear heavy duty ankle braces when I play football and volleyball but nothing when I run and I wonder how they would fair out.
